E-learning and facing Corona

In the twenty-first century, education has faced many challenges, but the most powerful and influential was facing the Corona virus. About 1.6 billion students have been affected in more than 190 countries in various continents of the world, as educational institutions were closed and direct contact was prohibited, which prompted many of these institutions to take the option of e-learning as one of the modern methods to confront the virus and limit its spread, and to keep the educational process going so that students do not fall into the clutches of ignorance. However, in light of the Corona pandemic, e-learning constituted a double-edged sword, as either the educational process would continue or be stopped.
E-learning has become one of the modern methods and the first platform for education in light of the ongoing pandemic. And among the tentation to continue the education in all the educational institutions and follow the modern methods of education and prevent the spread of the Corona virus, e-learning imposed its goals and tools on all the elements of the educational process, which contributed to alleviating the spread of the virus through remote communication, opening the way for the transfer of information, and developing capabilities and skills without direct mixing.
E-learning is a sophisticated and modern way to transfer educational content, achieve educational goals, and communicate skills and scientific concepts through modern technologies such as computers and portable devices in an educational environment supported by audio and video, and available at any time and place.
Thus, e-learning contributed to the continuity of the educational process in various institutions, schools, universities and institutes, and encouraged and supported the self-learning process for the students by providing an interactive learning environment among the elements of the educational process.
E-learning has also facilitated the search and access to scientific material easily and quickly. It also provided opportunities to refine the electronic skills and capabilities of the elements of the educational process, and opened wide horizons for developing skills using promptly the modern technologies.
The e-learning environment requires the provision of skill requirements for teachers and students, and material requirements such as electronic devices and multiple communication systems, in addition to Internet and electricity networks, which are requirements that necessitated the emergence of many difficulties in the application of e-learning represented in the weakness of the capabilities of some elements of the educational process in the use of modern technologies, which may be as a result of the lack of training opportunities, and the emergence of fear among some learners of the effectiveness of the methods used in this e-learning process, that may be inappropriate, which affects the achievement of the objectives of the educational process and the students’ absorptive abilities.
In addition to the weak conviction of some learners to use e-education as a recent trend due to their preference for traditional education, but rather a more appropriate, successful and more reliable method, and the weakness of Internet networks, power outages as well as the weakness of the financial capabilities of families in providing e-learning requirements, all of these form difficulties that limit the ability of e-learning and its efficiency.
However, e-learning has found success and wide demand in the developed countries that allocate high resources to the development of education in its various different methods for all its students. As for a country like Yemen, which education system is generally characterized by fragility and weakness in all its physical and electronic components, it is natural that this reflects a negative impact on the progress of the educational process. And in light of the spread of the Corona virus, it may not give the expected fruits when the appropriate integrated environment is not available to activate it, and this means that many students will not be able to complete their education, or at least obtain a fruitful continuing education.
Therefore, e-learning, in light of the spread of epidemics, represents a great challenge, and it requires confrontation and preparation at the various administrative levels interested in the education, and working to provide the appropriate physical and human environment to effectively achieve its role.
